This Privacy Policy explains how AskWell ("AskWell," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you install and use the AskWell Shopify app or visit askwell.tambourineai.com (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Shopify store data

When you install AskWell, the app requests permission to access certain data from your Shopify store via the Shopify API. This typically includes:

• Product information: titles, descriptions, prices, options, variants, tags, vendor, product type, and metafields.
• Collection information: titles, descriptions, and rules.
• Shop information: shop domain, plan type, primary language, and currency.
• Theme app extension settings you configure within AskWell.

This data is used to generate and render FAQs on your storefront. We do not access customer personal data, orders, or payment information.

1.2 Account & billing data

Billing is processed entirely through Shopify Managed Pricing. We do not collect or store payment card details. We receive subscription state (active, trialing, cancelled) via Shopify webhooks.

1.3 Usage data

We collect aggregate usage information to operate and improve the Service, including:

• Number of FAQ generations per shop (used to enforce the Free plan quota).
• Templates and customization options selected.
• Errors and diagnostic information when something fails.

1.4 AI inputs & outputs

To generate FAQs, AskWell sends product and collection data to OpenAI's API. OpenAI processes this data to produce the FAQ content. Per OpenAI's API terms, data submitted through the API is not used to train OpenAI's models. AskWell stores the resulting FAQ output in our database so your storefront can render it.

1.5 Website data

This marketing website is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may collect standard server logs (IP address, browser user-agent, request timestamps) for security and operational purposes. We do not run third-party analytics or advertising trackers on this site.

2. How we use information

We use the information we collect to:

• Generate FAQ content tailored to your products and collections.
• Render FAQs on your storefront via the theme app extension.
• Enforce plan limits and process subscription state changes.
• Provide customer support and respond to inquiries.
• Diagnose errors, prevent abuse, and improve the Service.
• Comply with legal obligations.

3. How we share information

We share data only with the service providers strictly necessary to operate AskWell:

• Shopify — to read your store data, render storefront content, and process billing.
• OpenAI — to generate FAQ content from your product data. Data sent via OpenAI's API is not used to train their models.
• Hosting providers (fly.io, GitHub Pages) — to run the app and host this website.

We do not sell or rent your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We will disclose data only if required to do so by law or in good faith to protect our rights, users, or the public.

4. Data retention

We retain your shop data, FAQ outputs, and settings for as long as your AskWell account is installed. If you uninstall the app, we retain the data for a short grace period (typically 30 days) to allow reinstallation without data loss, then we delete it from our active systems. Backups containing your data are rotated regularly.

5. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under data-protection laws such as GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), or similar regulations. These typically include:

• The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
• The right to request correction or deletion.
• The right to object to or restrict processing.
• The right to data portability.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@tambourineai.com. Note that for Shopify store data, the merchant (you) is generally the data controller and AskWell is the data processor.

6. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for stored data, scoped access tokens, and least-privilege database access. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the information you entrust to us.

7. Cookies & tracking

This marketing website does not set tracking cookies or run third-party analytics. The AskWell app, when used inside the Shopify admin, may use session cookies necessary for authentication via Shopify's standard mechanisms.

8. International transfers

AskWell operates from infrastructure that may process data in regions including the United States and the European Union. By using AskWell, you consent to the transfer of your data to these regions, subject to appropriate safeguards.

9. Children's privacy

AskWell is a business tool for Shopify merchants. It is not directed to anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the app or via email where appropriate.
