1. What AskWell does
AskWell generates and publishes FAQ sections for your Shopify storefront. It reads your real product and collection data — titles, descriptions, prices, options, tags, and metafields — and uses AI to write relevant questions and answers. You then choose a design template, review the content, and publish it as a native theme section on your product pages, collection pages, or anywhere else.
Three things AskWell is built to do well:
- Answer buyers before they email you — reduce repetitive support questions about sizing, shipping, returns, and more.
- Look native to your store — five polished templates that match your theme, not a generic bolted-on widget.
- Help your SEO — automatic FAQ schema (JSON-LD) that makes your pages eligible for Google's FAQ rich results.
2. Quick start (5 minutes)
From install to live FAQs in four steps:
- Generate. Open the Products page in AskWell, find a product, and click Generate FAQs. AskWell writes a set of questions and answers from that product's data in a few seconds.
- Review & edit. Click View / Edit to read the generated FAQs. Tweak any wording, add or remove questions, then save.
- Publish. Click Publish to push the FAQs live. (They stay as a draft until you do.)
- Add the block to your theme. A one-time step — add the AskWell FAQ section to your product template in the theme editor so it shows on your storefront. See the next section.
3. Adding the FAQ block to your theme
AskWell publishes FAQs through a Shopify theme app block. You add it once per template (product, collection) and it automatically shows the right FAQs for whatever page a shopper is on.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes and click Customize on your live theme.
- From the page dropdown at the top, choose a Product page (then repeat later for a Collection page if you want collection FAQs).
- Click Add section (or Add block) where you want the FAQs to appear, and select Askwell FAQ.
- Drag it to the position you want — typically below the product description or near the buy box.
- Click Save.
4. Generating FAQs
AskWell generates FAQs separately for Products and Collections — use the matching page in the app's left navigation.
Generate for one product or collection
Find the item in the list and click Generate FAQs. AskWell uses that item's data to write a set of questions and answers. You can filter the list by name, type, or FAQ status to find items quickly.
Generate in bulk
Use Generate FAQs in bulk to create FAQs for every item that doesn't have them yet, or select specific rows with the checkboxes and use the toolbar to generate just those. A progress bar shows the batch running; you can stop it at any time.
Add FAQs manually
Prefer to write your own? Click Add manually on any item to create an empty FAQ set and open the editor — no AI generation required (and it doesn't use a generation from your monthly allowance).
Regenerate
Regenerate replaces an item's FAQs with a fresh AI set. Your live storefront keeps showing the previous version until you review and re-publish, so regenerating never disrupts what shoppers currently see.
5. Editing & publishing
Draft vs. published
Every FAQ set is either a Draft (saved in AskWell, not visible to shoppers) or Published (live on your storefront). New and regenerated FAQs start as drafts so you can review them before they go live.
Editing
Click View / Edit on any item, then Edit FAQs. You can change questions and answers, add new ones with + Add FAQ, remove any you don't want, and Save.
Publishing & unpublishing
- Publish pushes the FAQs to your storefront (they appear wherever you placed the AskWell block).
- Unpublish removes them from the storefront but keeps them saved in AskWell, so you can re-publish later.
- Use Publish all, or select rows and publish in bulk, to push many at once.
6. Templates & design
Open the Design page to control how your FAQs look. Products and collections each have their own design — switch between them with the target toggle at the top. A live preview updates as you make changes; press Save changes to publish the look to your storefront.
Choose a template
Pick from five templates using the dropdown at the top of the settings panel:
| Template | Best for |
|---|---|
| Classic | Clean, minimal divider list that blends into any theme. |
| Luxe | Warm, premium card with a header icon — beauty, jewelry, high-ticket. |
| Rounded | Soft, floating cards with subtle shadow and accent icons. |
| Bold | High-contrast, two-column layout with a marketing column beside the FAQs. |
| Refined | Soft palette, per-question icons, and a support card — elegant and editorial. |
The three settings tabs
Every template uses the same three tabs, so settings are always in the same place:
- Content — your words and behavior: heading and subtitle text, alignment, marketing copy and feature cards (for Bold/Refined), open behavior, footer call-to-action, SEO, and branding.
- Typography — type sizes (title, question, answer).
- Style — the visuals for the chosen template: colors, backgrounds, corner radius, card options, and more.
Preview background
The Background control in the preview toolbar (white, black, or a custom color) lets you check your design against the background your real storefront uses — handy for templates that sit directly on your theme. It only affects the preview, not your live store.
7. AI settings
The Settings page controls what the AI generates (separately for products and collections):
- Number of FAQs — how many questions to generate per item.
- Answer length — shorter and punchier, or longer and more detailed.
- Custom instructions — guide the tone and content, e.g. "Use a friendly tone, always mention free shipping over $50, never promise specific delivery dates."
Changes apply the next time you generate or regenerate FAQs — existing FAQs aren't rewritten automatically.
8. SEO & FAQ schema
AskWell can automatically add FAQPage JSON-LD schema to pages with published FAQs. This is structured data that tells Google your page contains a FAQ, making it eligible for FAQ rich results in search.
- Toggle it on or off under Design → Content → SEO.
- Schema is only added for published, non-empty FAQ sets, and AskWell avoids duplicating it if the same FAQs appear more than once on a page.
9. Plans & billing
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| FAQ generations | 10 / month | Unlimited |
| All templates | ✓ | ✓ |
| Product & collection FAQs | ✓ | ✓ |
| Custom AI instructions | ✓ | ✓ |
| "Powered by AskWell" badge | Shown | Hidden |
| Priority support | — | ✓ |
Pro includes a 14-day free trial and can be cancelled any time. Generating and regenerating both count as a generation; editing, publishing, and adding FAQs manually do not. Manage your plan on the Billing page.
10. Troubleshooting
My FAQs aren't showing on the storefront.
Check two things: (1) the FAQ set is Published (not a draft), and (2) you've added the Askwell FAQ block to that page's template in the theme editor. The block hides itself when a page has no published FAQs.
I edited my FAQs but the storefront didn't change.
If the set was already published, edits go live automatically when you save. If it was a draft, click Publish. If it's still not updating, your theme or browser may be caching — try a hard refresh.
Regenerating replaced answers I'd edited.
Regenerate creates a fresh AI set and overwrites the previous content. To keep manual edits, use Edit FAQs instead of Regenerate. Note your live storefront stays on the old version until you re-publish, so nothing breaks instantly.
I hit my generation limit.
The Free plan includes 10 generations per month. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited generations, or wait for your monthly limit to reset. You can keep editing, publishing, and adding FAQs manually in the meantime.
The text is hard to read on my storefront.
Open Design → Style and adjust your text colors. Use the preview Background control to match your store's real background while you tune the colors. Transparent templates (like Classic) sit directly on your theme, so their text needs enough contrast with your page background.
My theme isn't an Online Store 2.0 theme.
AskWell's storefront block requires an Online Store 2.0 theme (the standard for current Shopify themes). Most modern themes qualify; if yours doesn't, updating to a current theme version enables the block.
